FLEXRAIL1 OVERVIEW - design considerations
|
layout |
Use rope, chalk or string on floor level, or a scale drawing with string to estimate rail needs. A good rule of thumb is to order more rail than you think you’ll need ( IE: add 4’ for every 16’ of rail estimated). Broad curves work best (24° min. radius).
POWER FEED
The rail should pass under or near a junction box (supplying 120V). Rigid tube type power feed also supports the rail. Cable type is used for custom length or slopped ceilings.
MOUNTING
Determine the ceiling type & drop length. Determine how many standoffs . (3) Supports minimum for an 8ft section & (2) for a 4ft section.
JOINING
“I” connector and variable connectors serve a dual purpose by both joining, two rail sections and supporting the rail.
SHAPING
Rail is shipped straight, small jobs can be hand bent (by working over a rounded object). Use a bending tool for larger jobs.
CuTTING
Rail may be field cut. Plan layout configuration so only the last rail section gets cut. See instructions supplied with rail for further detail.
LIGHT SOURCES
Line voltage and low voltage fixtures may be mixed on the same rail. Low voltage fixtures have integral transformers.
QUICK CONNECT PENDANTS and DIRECTIONAL FIXTURES
Quick Connect transformer attaches to rail and accepts all Quick Connect fixtures and pendants .
TIPS
Rails are supplied with end caps . Use standard dimmers for line voltage fixtures, and electronic low voltage dimmers for all low voltage fixtures. Standoffs and “I” connectors may be cut to custom lengths (use the “HM-XADJ” component). Custom suspensions will require a custom power feed as well. Use the HM1-PCC cable series which is easily field cut. Suspension rods may be joined to create longer drops (use the XI- component) The variable connector allows angle adjustment up to 270 Degrees. Shaping rail before mounting on the ceiling allows you to determine the best location for standoffs Hand bending of small curves is acceptable, while larger and more intricate curves should be done with the bending matching (HM1-BM). Remember that each Quick Connect element requires a matching HM1-EN50 FLEXRAIL1 Quick Connect adapter .
